MTN Nigeria, a technology company, has significantly reduced its energy costs by over N570 million by utilizing gas generators, according to its 2023 climate change report. In an effort to reduce emissions and support Nigeria's 2050-2070 net-zero target, MTN Nigeria has invested in clean energy technologies.

Key points from the report include:
- Deployment of three 1.1 megawatts (MW) gas generators to cut greenhouse gas emissions and energy expenses.
- Collaboration with a renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP) program to establish a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) power plant for its corporate office and main data center.
- Installation of motion light sensors in buildings and switching centers to optimize power usage.
- Implementation of a 56-kilowatt proof-of-concept solar project, generating over 4,000 kilowatt hours of clean electricity monthly.

MTN Nigeria's CEO, Karl Toriola, highlighted the company's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by reducing energy consumption, using green energy sources, and investing in certified climate protection projects.

Nigeria, through the Climate Change Act 2021, is working towards low greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable growth, targeting a net-zero GHG goal between 2050 and 2070. The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) is also encouraging the telecom industry to transition to alternative, cleaner energy sources to reduce carbon footprint.

In summary, MTN Nigeria is making significant strides in clean energy adoption, aligning with Nigeria's environmental goals, and aiming to reduce emissions and energy costs while contributing to a more sustainable future.
