A few months before he was set to graduate from the National Defence Academy, on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the victim, named as CDT Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyeomereneche, with registration number NDA 13257, passed away.
When the incident occurred, the cadet had arrived at the facility with buddies and was swimming in the pool when it happened.
According to a source who requested to remain anonymous, the victim vanished from the pool's surface on Tuesday night at approximately 6:37 p.m.
The source said that after discovering his motionless body, men from the state fire department determined it was dead at the Federal Medical Center Umuahia.
ASP Maureen Chinaka, a spokesperson for the State Police Command, verified the event on Friday. "CPS was notified about it, and an investigation is still underway," she continued.
