Various scientists have reported the existence of microplastics in virtually all ecosystems of the earth. Indeed, microplastics have been found in Artic ice that is considered to be an ecosystem that is scarcely tainted by human activities.

The widespread discovery of microplastics is not the big deal in this scenario. The striking and alarming fact is that living things including aquatic and terrestrial animals and plants have the capacity to absorb these microplastics into their tissues. In fact, scientists have found microplastics in common foods such as fish and vegetables. Obviously, humans eat various animals and plants, meaning that they indirectly consume microplastics.

The exact health impact of microplastics on humans has not yet been identified or described. Preliminary research however indicates that microplastics impair the functioning of human gastrointestinal tracts.

These findi9ngs have led scholars to predict that the next global health emergency will result from microplastics.

Scary. Isn't it?

What measures can be taken to ensure that children do not suffer the negative health impacts of microplastics?
