In Q1 2023, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) made notable progress in power generation. They issued a total of 10 power generation licenses. These licenses included:

1. Alausa Power Limited: A 23 MW gas-based off-grid power generation license in Ikeja, Lagos.
2. ABV Utility Limited: A 20 MW power generation license in Lekki, Lagos.
3. Waltersmith Industrial Park Electricity Distribution Company Limited: A license in Ohaji-Egbema, Imo state.
4. Waltersmith Ugamma Power Company Limited: A 200 MW gas-based power generation license in Imo state.
5. Zungeru Hydro Electricity: A significant 700 MW on-grid hydro-based power generation license in Niger state.

Additionally, NERC approved five captive power generation permits, totaling 56.77 MW. These permits were granted to various companies across Nigeria.

These licenses and permits are crucial for meeting the country's growing energy needs, as per the 2023 Electricity Act, which allows NERC to issue multiple generation licenses for both renewable and non-renewable sources.
