Six people have been detained by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for stealing and damaging a transformer in the Mpape neighborhood of Abuja.
In a statement released on Friday, April 12, 2024, the command's spokeswoman, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that among the suspects is Raymond Mailabari, an employee of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, or AEDC.
In response to credible information, the FCT police command's operations on April 11, 2024, at approximately 10:45 PM, trailed and apprehended six suspects—all male employees of Tipper Garage, Mpape, Abuja—for vandalizing and stealing a transformer: Kabiru Muhammad, Aliyu Usman, Abdulmalik Alhasassan, Shafi'u Suleiman, Suleiman Ibrahim, and Raymond Mailabari, an AEDC staff member.
"When police officers intervened and captured the perpetrators, they were attempting to flee with a vandalized transformer that they had loaded onto a crane truck in Maitama. The following items were found: a vandalized transformer, a crane truck, a blue Mercedes Benz with registration number PKN 497 XA, a white J5 bus with registration number RBC 228 XC, an ash-colored Peugeot 406 automobile with registration number GSN 13 AA, and a car belonging to an AEDC employee. "The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, would like to reaffirm his commitment to guaranteeing the protection of people and property in the Territory, even if the inquiry is still underway.
