President Bola Tinubu will decide whether or not to reopen the borders, according to Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi.

Adeniyi mentioned that discussions and engagements about the reopening of the border are still underway while speaking to participants in an interactive session with the Kongolam border village in Mai'adua Local Government Area of Katsina state.

In keeping with the current administration's goal of promoting economic development, he added that the Service will concentrate on eliminating barriers that work against free trade.

In addition, Adeniyi stated that efforts are being made to foster cooperation between traders and service personnel as well as to decrease the number of checkpoints along border posts.

"A decision regarding the topic will be made following the conclusion of consultations. We understand the border towns' worries, especially in relation to the quantity of checkpoints and the closing of land borders.

"I promise that we only use the authority that has been entrusted to us and that the law always serves as our guidance. We have informed the President of the worries and grievances expressed by the people living in border areas.

"Because he has ears to listen," he said, ordering us to release food that had been seized under the strict requirement that it be sold only in Nigerian marketplaces.

"We are aware that there are markets in the vicinity of our borders, and not all of them are geared at smuggling items across the border.

"We'll keep an eye on things and make sure food produced and consumed in Nigeria stays in Nigeria." This is due to the fact that there is a food shortage that is causing a national emergency.

And for that reason, we need to band together to support the government in enforcing the regulations that currently forbid the export of food products.
